Week 8

This is a lazy weekend outfit.  I'm wearing a black ribbed J. Crew tank, a heather gray cotton/cashmere Theory cardigan, black Saltworks jeans, a green pebbled leather Coach belt, and Minnetonka moccasins.  The Theory cardigan is the best sweater ever.  It's the perfect thinness and super soft.  I can even wear it in the summer.  I like wearing it wrapped kind of like a kimono and belted, rather than buttoned.  It's slightly assummetrical.

I like how skinny jeans with zippers at the bottom look when they're only half zipped and hanging over shoes or booties.  These moccasins need to be replaced in kind soon.  They are oh so comfortable.  I wear them to work almost every time I have site visits.  I'm more afraid of my foot slipping off the rung of a ladder than stepping on a nail, and these have nubby soles.

Here is the belt.  It was my mom's.  It looks like she may never have worn it.  My guess is it's from the '90s based on the buckle.  I'm not really sure.  My mom went through a phase where she would go nuts at Coach outlets when I was in college.

Week 7

This is a red and white cotton gingham Gap blouse and a very high-waisted black cotton Banana Republic pencil skirt with Sam Edelman ballet flats.  I've been playing with the idea of tying the hem of button downs at the waist the way women in the '50s and '60s wore them with capri pants.  I also like the vaguely rockabilly way it looks in gingham, but that the cut of the shirt keeps it from looking like a direct reference.
These are the same shoes from Week 3.  They're on the verge of being completely worn out, and I'm looking for replacements.  Red ballet flats are a staple for me and are often the only colorful aspect of what I'm wearing.  If anyone sees a similar pair, please let me know!

Week 6

This is a little black dress that I like for winter.  It's a cotton American Apparel tunic dress with a very wide boatneck, dropped shoulders, and pockets.  I'm wearing it with floral lace tights, a silver cuff made my by friend Talya, and my ever-present Frye boots.  The dress is really simple and I have a slew of belts and necklaces that I'll probably wear with it in the future.  However, I wanted this look to be simple so the focus is on the tights.  I can't really pull off these tights without boots, and I like how there is just a bit of them showing to keep things interesting.  They're kind of '80s and I like them with the "Flashdance"-ish neckline of the dress.

Week 5

Should I keep this skirt?  More details forthcoming...

Ok, so the story is that this cotton skirt was on sale for $20 at Anthropologie.  I'm by no means in dire need of a new skirt, but I think it would be a really easy thing to throw on in the morning for work year round.  I don't have any other plaid skirts like this, probably due to some sort of Catholic school uniform complex I've developed.

Again, this is one of those things where I really like the details and it has fun buttons.  This is the waist.  It has pockets, double belt loops, and the tab is folded over.

One of the buttons is metal and there is a cute notch.  The back is plain with slash pockets.

I'm wearing the skirt with an off-white Sparrow cardigan with blue and green details, ribbed blue J. Crew tights, and Steven oxfords.  I don't know if I'd wear the sweater with it.  It's kind of button overload, but it was too cold in my apartment when I took the pictures to wear anything else.

These shoes remind me of shoes worn by elderly Italian men in well tailored suits and reappropriated by  bicycle-riding women in Milan wearing cuffed pants.

So, keep the skirt?  Wear it with this sweater?  Wear it with a belt through those funny belt loops?  Return it and come up with a better outfit for next week?
