Week 12

I moved to a different bedroom in my apartment this weekend, hence the disaster site you see in the background of this photo and this being posted on Sunday.  I'm wearing a Banana Republic black cotton spaghetti strap V-neck top, black leggings, a heathered tan wool Parameter dress, and gray patent leather Jeffrey Campbell ballet flats.  It's almost Spring so I wanted to squeeze in this wool dress one more time.

Week 11

It's suddenly Springtime in New York, and I can't even remember what I wear in this weather.  This is a white cotton and lace Trovata dress with brown leather Biviel heels.  Again, a Trovata dress that I adore.  It's very airy and light, but I can wear it over a black turtleneck and thick black tights and boots in winter.

This is the back.

And this is a detail of the front.

This is how it looks with a blue braided leather Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent belt.  Is it better this way?  I've worn a brown belt with it before, but I rarely have the opportunity to wear this blue one.

Week 10

I'm dogsitting at Cori's apartment this weekend, hence the change in background.  I'm wearing a blue-gray Steven Alan buttondown, olive green "Broken In Boyfriend" J. Crew chinos, a gray leather J. Crew belt, and gray suede J. Crew flats.  Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of this look.  I think it's a bit too much menswear and the belt and shoes match too well.  I'm a little uncertain about the boyfriend chino idea, but they were $6 at one of J. Crew's after Christmas sales.  For $6 they warranted a try.  If I were home I would probably add a girly cardigan or something.  However, I'm at Cori's apartment...

...alone, with all of her shoes.  Nothing improves an outfit more than a little white dog and a pair of Pucci peep-toes.  Oscar is the ultimate fashion accessory.  His cuteness also distracts from a less than great look.

I think heels make the boyfriend chino acceptable.  Especially these heels.

Oscar also gives excellent fashion advice.  Here he is begging me to take Cori's new Louboutin's out of the closet so that I can wear them while we play tug-of-war with some sort of stuffed animal toy that he has shredded beyond recognition.

Week 9

Toggles and plaids and buttons, oh my!  There's a lot going on here.  I'm wearing a plaid cotton Trovata shirtdress, a black wool J. Crew sweater, black Uniqlo tights with a diamond pattern, and the same Steven shoes as in Week 5.

I love Trovata.  They include wonderful details in their garments like this little quote stitched into the cuff, the striped trim inside, pockets that button, and the wooden toggle closure in the photo below.

This is called the Marin Shirtdress and Trovata makes it in a variety of fabrics and prints.  This is a summer version, but I'm layering it for a warm winter day.  It's a little bit shorter than I would like, but I wear it over pants or leggings sometimes.  It's one of my favorite things in my closet.

The J. Crew sweater has a cute button placket that makes it slightly nautical to me.  The Uniqlo tights are wonderful.  I recently discovered them and bought a few pairs.  They are $4.90, very comfortable, and so far have held up to several washings without snags.  Highly recommended.
